Austin is the cycling Mecca, the home of several prominent, professional cyclists, is littered with bicycle lanes and blessed with beautiful scenery. Cycling is a dangerous activity however and riding in a group is a good way to increase one’s personal safety whilst improving riding skills and making new friendships.

The CCR Cycling Club is a group intended for all levels of cyclists, although currently rides are typically attended by those who would like to do weekend rides of 30 - 50 miles at a moderate pace (average 14-16 mph). The rides are not a “festival of speed”, are generally attended by more mature riders (average age would be between 45- 55 although our eldest cyclist is over 70!), are very accommodating and are “no drop” rides.  The Winter season is focusing the cycling group on road riding and is generally for active cyclists for many reasons.  The Spring season will see an introduction of cycling for less active/ new cyclists.

In the Spring a “cycling for the rest of us” program is planned with beginner lessons followed by more advanced lessons planned for this program.  Additionally, Wednesday morning rides will start as will regular mountain bike rides. Watch the Welcome Mat for details of these and other cycling events.

CCR Cycling Club also has a good relationship with the Bicycle Sport Shop which may be useful if you require guidance or equipment.

A typical ride would consist of 6 - 8 cyclists, and last 2 - 3 hours and have comfort breaks along the way.  Equipment for the winter rides would be a bike with clipless pedals, shoes, padded shorts, warm clothing as appropriate, liquids, basic bike first aid (spare tube, CO2/pump, etc).  If interested, even if not a cyclist of this standard (yet!) please contact Paul Murphy via email or phone.  Please RSVP so we know to expect you as if you are running late you may miss us.  Looking forward to seeing you out there.

DirectionsMoPac South to Slaughter, go west on Slaughter Lane ¼ mile to second set of stop lights, turn North (right) on Escarpment, at the first entry on the left is Starbucks (opposite the HEB).
